Greenville, PA is a historic rail hub town. Three important rail routes traversed in the 1860s through Greenville, connecting Pittsburgh and Erie as well as New York and Chicago. After the age of railroads faded, Greenville was able to reinvigorate itself with its strong manufacturing businesses, resulting in a thriving Main Street. The deindustrialization of the 1980s deeply affected Greenville and it's small businesses. Today, The Borough and Chamber of Commerce are working together with business leaders and citizens to find innovative ways to attract and build business along Main Street (Downtown Task Force). Our businesses are supportive of our initiatives, but we feel that we are stretching them as we continue to ask for additional funds. We have several buildings that need refurbished to make our Main Street even more attractive. Small business is what makes communities grow; this award will help us to continue working to attract new business to main street - growing our community. (Photo courtesy of Thiel College)
