Stand on the sidewalk in Lititz, Pennsylvania and you'll feel it, the magic. A stroll up Main or Broad and you'll feel a unique peace. It's like you're at home and on vacation, all at the same time. The feeling of home comes from our people. You'll receive warm greetings from shopkeepers and passersby, you'll see families playing in Lititz Springs Park and children giggling at the antics of the ducks who call the spring home, and you'll see friends greeting friends at our downtown pubs and restaurants. The feeling of vacation comes from the history and character of the town. Home to Julius Sturgis, America's oldest commercial pretzel bakery, and Linden Hall, the oldest all-girls residential school, which began in 1746, the streets of Lititz are lined with architecture that can only be described as art. Unique moldings surround doors and windows and beautiful brick, stone, and even logs make up exterior walls. Inside those walls are a mix of shops with a little something for every guest and resident of our town. There's a special magic that lives in Lititz, and that's why Lititz should win America's Main Streets Contest, powered by Stihl. If we were to win, we'd build upon what we've already started. We'd protect and preserve some of our beautiful exterior facades and we'd work on our goal of bringing more public art to town. We'd love to unite the shops and restaurants of our downtown district with a network of murals on sidewalks and walls. Here in Lititz, the work to enhance our town has begun and the momentum is strong. We will make that prize money work because we're already doing the work.
