Wilburton's Main Street began as a trail for the Choctaw Nation at the end of the Trail of Tears, grew with the discovery of coal and the arrival of the Railroad, and has continued to grow into the twenty-first century with the help of dedicated citizens, businesses, and civic leaders. Wilburton Main Street, Inc. was created to protect the historical significance of the downtown district and its' buildings and spark economic growthy. Since its founding in 2001, the Main Street Program has become a valued resource for merchants and property owners, as well as being a leader in bringing new events and projects to Main Street. We partnered with the City of Wilburton to accomplish a complete sidewalk and landscape project to replace all of the sidewalks on our Main Street that have needed replacing since the 1950s. Again in partnership with the City, and many others, we took an abandoned lot in the middle of downtown and created a beautiful pocket park for all to enjoy. We have created events such as Green Frog Festival, Relics and Rods Car Show and Cruise Night, Fall Festival Cruise Night, Twenty Men Who Cook, and more, which benefit the community and Wilburton Main Street! We have partnered with other organizations, the local schools, and the community college to accomplish tasks in town - clean-ups, painting, etc. We are grateful to have had over the years many dedicated volunteer leaders and workers, donors and members, to sustain our Main Street. We hope to continue to lead Wilburton into a successful twenty-first century!
