Logansport, Indiana is not just a small town, we are a small city! We have a long community tradition of entrepreneurship, and are home to many small independent businesses, including many small eateries. Logansport has several annual events that attract residents and visitors alike, most run by our many non-profit community organizations. Our community also has a rich tradition in the arts and culture, including a state-of-the-art performance venue, McHale Performing Arts Center, and the Cass County Dentzel Carousel, which is a National Historic Landmark. Our Main Street organization is developing an Arts & Culture District in the downtown area, and has already installed several pieces of public art, including a 13-foot tall metal statue entitled "The Dancers," created by a local craftsman. The Dancers statue resides in a pocket park created by Logan's Landing, using proceeds from a fundraising event called "Dancing With Our Stars." In 2012, this pocket park won a statewide award for Best Design of Downtown Public Improvements and kicked off a series of public art installations. We have many historic buildings, some of which need some TLC to regain their former splendor. Additionally, our community has an excellent system of trails, and we are becoming very cyclist-friendly with recently added bike lanes and a collection of bicycle-shaped bike racks sprinkled throughout the downtown district. Logansport is home to a campus of Ivy Tech Community College, as well as Trine University. We are currently participating in the Hometown Collaboration Initiative, and are learning to embrace our community's diversity and work together as a team to improve the community for all residents. We feel we have built up a great deal of momentum, and recognition by the America's Main Streets Contest will help us take Logansport to the next level!
