To sum up Steamboat Springs: we are a ranching town with a skiing problem. And at the heart of it all, is our historic downtown district. A Main Street since 2006, we're also a state mentor community. More than 200 locally-owned businesses punctuate our downtown streets, some with a history as old as Steamboat Springs itself. During the day you'll find kids reading library books by the river, and friends catching up on the street. At night, Main Street twinkles; lit by thousands of lights in the trees. At Main Street Steamboat, we're always looking to the future while ensuring we stay true to our storied history. That means thoughtful renovations to our architectural gems, like the former utility company building that now houses a brewery, the local paper and a variety of retail shops. Main Street also successfully narrowed a riverside street to create a pedestrian-friendly entertainment district. During the Summer, our Farmers Market hosts more than 135 vendors and 90,000 visitors every season. We also host bike races and classic car shows. For Halloween, we close down Main Street and open it up to costumed kids and their parents to trick-or-treat through downtown. Then, when the holidays roll around, Santa's Study arrives on Main Street and the kids line up to tell him if they've been good girls and boys. Steamboat Springs is a magical place, and our Main Street is dedicated to preserving that magic while making sure we keep pace with trends and technology. If we win this money we will continue to create more places for people to sit and take in the stunning scenery. We will create art installations, continue our beautification efforts, support businesses to promote our year-round economy all while staying true to the historic Main Street that started it all.
