Downtown Ottawa, Illinois is a historic town with a big heart. We are a tight-knit community, and a quickly rising tourism destination. Our downtown buildings are classic, original architecture, and our merchants put their all into making sure the town is always welcoming. We are the site of the historic Lincoln-Douglas debates, the home of the creation of Boy Scouts of America, and the stunning Reddick Mansion across from Washington Park is a beacon of our town's history. Ottawa lies in the heart of Starved Rock Country and the dreams we have for the potential of our downtown area are vast. We would use the money to improve our streets, our environment, and our resources. We have been finalists in America in Bloom, but we seem to be shy of meeting our goals. We want to be a family destination--an old-time downtown feel, with a modern-day appeal. We want our festival opportunities to grow and thrive; we want to be a town that has something to offer every age, and the kind of town that you want to stay and visit, and leave eager to visit again. America, at its core, is small town strong. By building up Ottawa, it will in turn strengthen the towns around us. Ottawa is the perfect location to improve upon, as it will be an even stronger beacon of Illinois history, Illinois economy, and family values.
