This money would be used to make improvements to our community and surrounding areas of natural beauty that people from all of the world flock to for the tranquility and gorgeous scenery. We who are lucky enough to live here so appreciate not only the beauty but the wildlife that co-inhabits our special area. Cougars, bobcats, coyotes, foxes, wild turkeys, hawks, falcons and owls are but a few of the awesome species we get to enjoy. Not to mention banana slugs, which is our local university's mascot! Boulder Creek is home to California's oldest state park, Big Basin Redwoods, which was established in 1902! The redwood forest is one of the most incredible places on earth with its year-around creeks, rivers and waterfalls providing us with almost endless hiking trails (one can hike from the redwoods to the ocean on a 12 mile trail), swimming holes and picnicking options. Gazing upon a fern grotto contained within a "Fairy Circle" of redwoods in the early morning with dew drops glistening on the tendrils or in the golden hues of the late evening light is one of the most peaceful and soul nurturng experiences one can have. Our awesome business association and recreation district host many fun events such as the Lumberjack Festival, music at Junction Park series, First Friday Art Walk, Community Christmas Tree lighting and Santa's arrival on a fire truck the day after Thanksgiving. These are just a few of the events that make our town so special and are enjoyed not only by our community members but by visitors to our little town as well. The prize money from this contest would help to further enhance these events and make them even more special!
