Washington Avenue has been the heartbeat of Downtown Navasota since the mid-1800's. Went through two fires, railroad engine crashes, flooding and some wild out-of-hand bars that had to be tamed by City Marshal Frank Hamer (before he took down Bonnie & Clyde). Over the years, there were good & bad times with more than half of the buildings empty in the 70's to today where recent investment and business development has created a downtown to be proud of. Only thing is, we aren't done yet! We still need to rebuild some of the sidewalks and get a crosswalk to complete the overall improvements.
