Main Street Wetumpka, an independent, volunteer-driven organization, has made a big impact since its designation as a Main Street Alabama community less than three years ago. While there's still plenty of work to do, its invested group of member volunteers, business and property owners have continued to pour love, time and ingenuity into the community's historic business district. Even though it has a remarkable history that includes impact craters and asteroids, endangered river snails, heartbreaking stories of the Creek removal, and a convergence of the French (just to name a few), its very recent history includes a devastating F-2 tornado that directly hit its downtown, destroying homes and buildings that were iconic to its identity. Despite this, the love of its downtown has motivated and inspired its business owners and residents to step up and forge ahead with hope and resolve, despite the difficult challenges of rebuilding ahead. We've even got events like the Coosapalooza Brewfest and Tulotoma Art Trail ahead! All possible because of the love our community has for its downtown.
