The Main Street Covington program, which is a non-profit organization, was established in 1988 to enhance the quality of life for the City of Covington residents through revitalization of the downtown district. Since then, Downtown Covington has become a vibrant downtown, which is a source of pride for the community. It has a unique blend of shopping and dining experiences that delight residents and visitors alike. Downtown's beautiful historical buildings are centered on the green oasis of the Square Park, where on many occasions wonderful concerts and community events take place throughout the year. Downtown Covington was named one of the Prettiest Small Towns in Georgia by Southern Living Magazine in 2017, and it was voted Best Town Square in Atlanta by the readers of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution in 2018. Referred to as "The Hollywood of the South," Downtown Covington has remained a gorgeous backdrop for over 100 films and television shows to date. If Main Street Covington wins this contest, the prize money would go right back into downtown and be used to install a mural, add more flowers and plants around the Square and other beautification projects to retain the Southern charm of this great downtown. Main Street Covington is committed to promoting and developing a downtown which has a thriving economy, is a cultural center for the community and is visually appealing to residents and visitors.
