The City, along with it's many partner businesses along Washington Ave. (our "Main St") has made huge strides with improvements to make downtown the economic center it was many years ago. We are at the last blocks of the re-development of sidewalks (some grant assistance), building a new parking lot (EDC loan), and a crosswalk for safety. As Mayor, this was something I set out to complete when I first ran 14 years ago. It is about to come to fruition but we still have a little more to go to complete it. I feel we should be chosen because of the many years of dedication to complete, help that it is bringing to the downtown economy, and attraction it brings to Navasota (new residents & tourists). Our "new" city hall was built in 2011 to create a town square, which we do not have because we are not the county seat where usually the courthouse is located--in fact we are the biggest city in Grimes County, but not the county seat. We have a great story to tell, from our rich history to the jobs our industries provide the community. We would use the money to finish the streetscape project, where some 20,000 drivers a day come to and through Navasota's downtown district. There are so many investors in downtown now, new businesses opening in the Spring and the city wants to be a part of that development. Funding for this type work is hard to find.
