Welcome to Bellevue, Pennsylvania. Our charming community offers nostalgic history, urban vibrancy, small town comforts, and convenient day-to-day amenities within walking distance to rows of Queen Anne, Colonial Revival, and Craftsman homes that house approximately 8,300 residents. While Bellevue's main street has sustained core businesses like the grocery and hardware store, the flower shop, bakery, and local diner; it was only a few years ago that our community was plagued with empty storefronts and smoke shops, rent-a-centers, and cell phone stores that deterred residents and businesses alike from setting up shop in this once-thriving town. Given Bellevue's proximity to downtown Pittsburgh and its small size (1.1 square mile), our community is often overlooked for grants and other financial aid that would support the revitalization efforts. After many failed attempts to secure funds, Bellevue's passionate citizens and organizations rolled up their sleeves and got to working to attract new businesses and breathe new life into the town. Thanks to these dedicated residents, Bellevue's main street is currently populated with over 125 businesses (approximately 95% are independently owned and operated) which offers a unique shopping experience that combines small town staples with modern attractions, like the natural parenting supply store with cloth diaper service, pinball dojo, yoga studio, speak-easy style music venue, and funeral home turned fine dining restaurant. As Bellevue continues to evolve, there is still work to be done. Winning America's Main Streets contest would help us accelerate our growth, the publicity would help us promote our growing business district, and the prizes would allow us to invest tangible resources into the local Chamber of Commerce; enabling it to better support our independent business owners and invest in façades and signage to unify our main street and to help guide locals and visitors. Our main street is ready for change!
