Columbus' downtown offers southern charm with great, locally-owned restaurants and shops, cultural attractions, historic buildings with magnificent architecture, special events, business opportunities and much more. Downtown Columbus can be enjoyed by everyone, whether it be listening to music at Noon Tunes, riding your bike along the Riverwalk, enjoying lunch at one of our downtown restaurants or buying fresh produce at the Hitching Lot Farmers' Market. The Main Street Columbus Program was established in 1985 and is a 501©(3) non-profit organization encompassing a 34-block area within historic downtown Columbus. Downtown is proud to offer 175 downtown apartments. In 2008, Columbus received the impressive title of one of the Dozen Distinct Destinations by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Our hard work also allowed us to be granted the prestigious Great American Main Street Award® (GAMSA) in 2010, an award given to only five downtown organizations yearly throughout the nation. We have received much recognition for our Market Street Festival, one of the largest events in the area with over 40,000 attendees every year, as well as our Sounds of Summer concert series, Noon Tunes Music Series, Wassail Fest, Downtown Art Walk and annual Downtown Open Houses. Through these honors and promotions, many communities around the state look to our leadership and successes as a guide for development for their organization. Main Street Columbus knows quality of life is imperative for a happy and healthy population. It provides that and so much more with its great mix of retail, upper floor housing, family-friendly activities and engaging attractions. It is truly a place that our residents are delighted and proud to call home. It is our goal to make downtown Columbus THE place to live, shop, dine and play! We would love to expand our revitalization efforts!
