Over the past three years, the City of Lenoir Main Street Program has seen an exceptional interest in downtown development. From the number of new property owners interested in redevelopment, the number of new businesses, or the number of volunteers showing up for our programs, Downtown Lenoir is moving in the right direction. Economic Development Director, Kaylynn Horn, city officials, and community partners are determined to see this growth continue. Our Moving Lenoir to the Second Floor initiative is a program that offers assistance to downtown property owners by paying for an architect to walk through the upper stories of their buildings and provide a vision of what second floor residential living could look like. This program allows property owners a chance to speak with an architect at no cost to them and to better understand what the realities of second floor renovation look like. Often they are not as scary as some believe and we have seen multiple property owners decide to move forward with their projects. More housing downtown can lead to more business downtown and that is a cycle we'd like to see continue. Should we win the America's Main Streets Contest, the money would go to this program or a similar one that encourages residential development in our downtown district. Together we create a great place to live!
