St. Marys Georgia is a rural gem nestled in the Southeastern corner of the state. St. Marys is the second oldest City in the country, just behind our neighbors to the South, St. Augustine. St. Marys is currently undergoing a vast change in the landscape of the downtown. We have invested public money to improving the infrastructure and street aesthetics, and in return are seeing private money invested back into the community. It is vital to the community that we keep the historic charm that everyone loves, all while updating and making our downtown more accessible and inviting for members of the community, and those traveling through the area. With the money won, we could invest heavily into our Downtown Development Authorities facade grant program. This program is currently only funded about $3,000 annually. The DDA would love to expand this so we can help our small business owners do the necessary upgrades to maintain a modern and functional business. We want the downtown to continue to grow, but to always maintain the integrity of a small town. Many of our small business owners want to make improvements, but sometimes funds are hard to come by. The DDA can use the funds to alleviate some of that stress off of our businesses, thus strengthen the downtown and the relationships between the public/private sector.
